quiet girls...

The girls were so quiet, which usually means trouble, so I had to go check on them...

...to my surprise, I found them coloring in their room. Wow! Are we really to that point? Can I now relax when they're quiet rather than rushing to discover disaster after noticing those few moments of silence? Hmmm...this may take some getting used to.

zoe is 4!

I can't believe my little corner-lover is 4 years old already! So sweet, so silly, so much fun! She got her ears pierced on her birthday too!

christmas party

A friend from work invited us over for a christmas party at her house. It was so fun! Lots of kids to play with, good food to eat, decorating gingerbread houses, and a visit from SANTA! The girls were so excited (and surprised!) to get a visit from santa!

she said it...

ava: "when I grow up I'm gonna be a painting teacher on monday, a swimming teacher on tuesday, a hotel worker on wednesday, I'm gonna build houses on thursday, and work in a circus on friday."
mom: "wow, you'll be busy with those jobs!"
ava: "I'm not going to work saturday or sunday!"
mom: "what will you do at the circus?"
ava: "I'm gonna hold up a hula hoop and tigers & poodles will jump through!"
(zoe adds: "I wanna work with ava when I grow up!")

holding up her empty corndog stick, eaten except for the tiny bit of fried batter in the middle of the stick...
"look, he's naked but 'cept for his underwear."

after lightning & thunder...
"I think somebody pressed the storm button."

zoe (very matter-of-factly): "when I grow up I want 2 wiener dogs."
ava: "she looks serious mom."

mom: "remember, I don't want anyone to talk to me while I'm working out."
ava: "yeah, because then you get extracted."

upon seeing her breath outside on a cold morning...
"look, I have wind in my mouth"

"blah! I don't like seeds in my tomato. I just like the wrapper."

barbie on the toilet in the new barbie house...
"yeah, she had to go so bad she clogged it up and then it overflowed and the mom had to clean it up because it went all over the floor and that was before a big date." :)

"home depot isn't as much fun as bounce depot, is it Zoe? It's much more boring."

zoe found a flashlight...
mommy: "go look at that flashlight in the dark"
zoe: "no, its too monstery"

watching a christmas special, a series of 1950s vingettes, a black & white cartoon comes on...
"what IS THIS? it's just in PENCIL??"

after asking several times while I was writing an email to a friend I hadn't talked to in a while (yes, it was a long email), Zoe holds my face in her two hands, looks directly in my eyes and says,
"mommy, put the computer down and get me a cupcake."

zoe to mom: "ARGH! I'm not talking!"
zoe (a split sec later): "mom?"
mom: "yeah?"
zoe: "I want my dirty blanket!"

ava: "mom I'm still hungry."
mom: "you just ate a whole bowl of fruit. listen to your tummy before you eat more."
5 seconds pass
ava: "I listened. it just growled."

zoe: knock knock
anyone: who's there?
zoe: banana
anyone: banana who?
zoe: banana toothbrush!
...or banana table or banana gaga or whatever else she happens to think is funny at the moment...i don't really get it...but i laugh hysterically anyway :)
-almost daily :)

deep thoughts on the car ride...
ava says: "I wanna do gymnastics and tippy toes."
mommy says: "do you mean like a ballerina?"
ava says: "yeah. the kind that have ribbons up their legs... i'll have to be a REALLY good tie-er then."

5 minutes out of Great Falls on the way to Minnesota..."what state are we in now?"

pulling up to get gas before we head out of town to go to Minnesota..."are we at grama's yet?" & after leaving the gas station, we stop at a red light..."is this grama's house?" & about 200 more times between Great Falls and Minnesota. :)

just inches away, staring into my face as I woke up & opened my eyes, still squinting, "Your forehead is crumbly."

looking at the security cameras in the breakfast area at our hotel..."those are to make sure kids aren't playing with their food, right mom?"

every time she hears a train..."Is that our train?"

waking up in the morning and looking out the window..."It looks like a beautiful day again! The sunset is even still out!"

on a day she was wearing a dress..."I don't have pants...just legs."
